The planet Jupiter is changing signs from Simha (Leo) to Kanya (Virgo). This is considered an ideal time to do yagyas to balance and strengthen the significations of Jupiter; punya (good karma), spirituality, luck, fathers and teachers, children, and Vedic knowedge.
On this day we will perfom a special yagya at a very special temple in Kanchipuram that is dedicated to Jupiter in the form of Dakshinamurti (Shiva as the divine teacher). At this temple we will do a full abishekam yagya where the deity's murti is bathed in traditional ingredients such as water, milk, yogurt, coconut juice, rose water, sandalwood paste, turmeric, buttermilk, honey, etc. This type of yagya is very soft and soothing. It brings calmness and balance to those areas of life where Jupiter's influence may be weak or out of balance.
Then we will perform the fire yagya (homam) for the 9 planets with an emphasis on Jupiter, then for Shiva/Dakshinamurti, the deity forms of Jupiter. This yagya bring strenght and power to the significations of Jupiter.
