Sri Maha Lakshmi 1008 Bilva Leaf Yagya |
The Yagya was performed at the conclusion of the Ganesha and Rig Veda Samhita Yagyas. It was intended to take advantage of the power and purity that was established from the previous yagyas so that we can all enjoy the many forms of abundance that Lakshmi provides through her blessings. |
First, a full puja was performed (as above) which included the recitation of various Vedic hymns for Lakshmi. Then all the various yagya ingredients were purified before being offered in the yagya fire. |
The priests performed various purification rituals prior to lighting the yagya fire (homam). |
The recitation of Vedic hymns was extensive and continued for many hours. At the end of various chapters a complete offering of turmeric, pomegranite, betel nuts, fruit, cloves, flowers, kumkum, and cloth was offered into the fire. In all 108 of these offerings were made during the yagya. |
The final offering is called poornadhuti and in this yagya a palm frond is used as a vasodhara to pour an offering of milk into the yagya fire. |
At the conclusion of the yagya we made a gift of a special high quality dhoti to each priest. |
