Navaratri Nine Day Yagya
Honoring the goddess in all Her forms

Kanchipuram, South India
October, 2004

This page contains MP3 recordings from phone calls that took place during the Navaratri celebrations in Kanchipuram during October, 2004. Each day, the priests chanted the Suktams and Mantra Japa, for the entire 4-5 hour morning session. At the same time in another room, a group of nine specially trained priests chanted the entire Chandi Path; 700 verses that tell the story of the goddess in her fierce form of Chandi. Then they performed the Chandi homam (fire yagya) using our new roof-top fire pit called a homa kund. Each evening the priests gathered to recite the Sahasranam (1008 names) of Lakshmi, Durga, and Saraswati and to chant selections from the Rig, Sama, and Yajur Vedas. This routine was followed for each of the 10 days of the yagya.
