Navaratri is the time of year when we celebrate the strong, creative, and abundant aspects of the divine in the form of Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati. 

For nine days our priests start early in the morning with Ganesha puja, Rudra abishekam, and then a recitation of Chandi Path,  the story of Durga told in 700 verse, all of which is considered to be one long mantra.

From 10 am to 1 pm we have a full scale Chandi Homam (fire yagya) with all 60+ traditional ingredients performed by an expert in this specific yagya.  This routine of pujas and recitation of Chandi Path followed by fire yagya repeats on each morning of the Navaratri celebration.

In the evening the priests assemble for the recitation (japa) of Lalitha sahasranam; the 1008 names of the most beautiful form of the divine feminine.  This is followed by Lakshmi sahasranam for wealth and abundance.  Then each evening the priests visit a few goddess temples for more pujas.  It is an intensive and continuous yagya that actually continues for a total of eleven days.

Ganesha is lord of beginnings, and our Navaratri celebration begins with a full day Ganesha yagya.  In addition to all the usual offerings of fruit, coconuts, wood, and herbs, and ghee, we offer 1008 modaka balls.  These small sweets are traditionally considered to be his favorite food. 

This is a great opportunity to remove obstacles for the coming year. because Saturn, Jupiter, and Rahu/Ketu are changing signs and this yagya, particularly when combined with the Navagraha Yagyas.

This fall all the major planets will be changing signs; Jupiter into Scorpio, Saturn into Leo, Ketu into Leo, and Rahu into Aquarius.  This will result in a new phase of life for everyone.  The Vedic tradition is that it is easier to have a positive on an astrological trend before it begins. 

Kumbakonam, 8 hours south of Kanchipuram is widely known for its Navagraha temples and this yagya will take place with a puja at the temple for each of the nine planets, followed by a huge navagraha yagaya at a local patasala (school).

This is a great opportunity to enhance the positive qualities of the planets in your chart, and reduce the negative.

The last evening of the Navaratri series will take place in a local Durga/Chandi temple with a full scale abishekam and puja.  The temple deity receives the offerings in liquid form (milk, buttermilk, sandalwood, rosewater, etc)and afterwards is dressed in a new silk sari.

This event is included in the full Navaratri yagya series but for those who are not able to participate in the full yagya, this is a great (inexpensive) way to enjoy participating in this wonderful celebration.

Sunday, September 24th

The nine planets deliver our karmas to us, and we can greatly smooth our life experience through a planetary yagya.  Everyone goes through difficult times and these yagyas facilitate the resolution of difficult karmas and remove obstacles to our general success in life.  They are supportive and life affirming yagyas that remove the sometimes overwhelming weight of difficult circumstances.   Since difficult times develop slowly, it must be expected that they will dissipate gradually, so best results are obtained by 3+ months of participation.

This yagya covers all nine planets in one five hour day of yagyas.  If you would like more focus on a particular planet(s), then we recommend the Personal or Private Yagyas which will give you several hours of focused pujas, mantra japa, and a fire yagya at modest cost.

Monday, September 25th

This yagya offers assistance with a wide variety of problems; overall peace of mind, spiritual progress, and health or transitions.  The yagya combines Ayush Yagya for long life with the Mrytunjaya Yagya for removal of fear.  This yagya is for Shiva, who wears the Moon in his hair and so it is also good for balancing the effects of the planets particularly Saturn.

Subramanyam Yagya
Tuesday, September 26th

Subramanyam is Ganesha's brother and the younger son of Shiva.  He is regarded as the "Divine General" and embodies the energy of Mars which when properly channeled gives rise to positive action, enthusiastic energy, optimism, and success. 

This yagya is particularly useful when times are difficult and you need a boost to get through challenges.  It is also good for those who have kuja dosa (Mars affliction) in their astrological charts as it will help to balance and harmonize interpersonal relationships.

Sudarshana and Narasimha Yagya
Wednesday, September 27th

Sudarshana is Vishnu's weapon (a discus of light) and this yagya is used to remove severe or stubborn obstacles.  It is particularly effective for those who are faced with conflicts, lawsuits, and specific or severe forms of opposition or troubles.

Narasimha is the incarnation of Vishnu who also helps to remove obstacles, and specifically protects and enhances family harmony. The Sudarshana and Narasimha yagyas are always performed together along with a brief Lakshmi yagya.  So it is a very effect "all purpose" yagya.

The three goddesses promote happiness, peaceful life and abundance in all forms, as well as the development of insight, wisdom and enlightenment.  This yagya promotes their assistance in helping us fulfill our desires and finding the inner peace and contentment that makes living enjoyable. Durga, the Divine Mother, enhances purity and individual strength. Saraswati is the goddess of wisdom and spiritual insight.  Lakshmi is the goddess of abundance in all forms, material and spiritual.

Ganesha is Vigneshwara; the lord of obstacles.  He removes the obstacles which hinder our progress towards spiritual and material success.  A Ganesha yagya is light and enjoyable and the results are an increasing sense of support and protection.  The obstacles that Ganesha removes are not only material.  By tradition, Ganesha is equally adept at removing the obstacles to our spiritual progress and can deliver powerful spiritual insights.  Generally, long-term participants report that while problems in life don't completely disappear, effective and appropriate solutions arise more readily and are implemented with little resistance.

This yagya is frequently combined with the Lakshmi yagya (see above) because the combination of Ganesha and Lakshmi brings a greater balance between material and spiritual success.

Friday, September 6th (Full Moon)

The yagya enhances peace and harmony between husband, wife, children and other family members of all generations.  It develops and protects smoothness in our external circumstances and enhances enjoyment and our ability to live in balance and harmony.  It is a gentle yagya that combines the protection of Vishnu with the fullness and abundance of Lakshmi.

As with all Vedic technologies, repetition is key to the development of strength and effectiveness.  The repetition of this yagya on a monthly basis develops depth of experience resulting in greater power and longer lasting results from the yagya.

Satyanarayana Yagya - ($37)

Personal Yagya (3 hours/1 priest) $75

A personal yagya is similar to a private yagya, the difference being that it is a little shorter and is performed by one priest rather than five.  It is intended to be easier to afford, particularly since it is most effective when repeated over a 3+ month period of time.  These yagyas can be very powerful, but the effects build gradually.

On your yagya day, your personal priest begins with a series of pujas (Ganesha, Kalasha, and Navagraha) followed by a fire yagya (homam). The entire yagya sequence develops balance, strength, and removes obstacles in your life.

Private Yagya (5 hours/5 priests) $300

A private yagya consists of a full day's dedicated effort on your behalf.  Five of our most experienced priests will perform 5 hours of pujas and mantra japa followed by a full 1 to 2 hour fire yagya (homam).

The focus of a private yagya can be particularly instrumental in lightening a difficult trend in life, solving a specific problem, removing a troublesome obstacle, or of dramatically deepening one's spiritual practices and experience of divinity.  A free jyotish consultation is available to assist you in the selection of the most appropriate and beneficial yagyas. On the day of your yagya, the priests begin by performing a series of pujas followed by 1008 japa repetitions of the mantra most appropriate for providing assistance from a spiritual perspective.  This is followed by the the full 1 to 2 hour fire yagya (homam) featuring an additional 1008 mantra repetitions with the traditional offerings of ghee, herbs, special woods, grains, fruits and nuts into the yagya fire.

Those who comit to the purchase of a private yagya for at least six months are included in the full yagya schedule during each month.  In addition to the 1 day private yagya, you are included as full sponsors for the 10 day yagya series at no additional charge.  The private yagya can change on a month to month basis.  The only requirement is the minimum six month term.
