Jupiter Peyarchi Yagya (Dec 15-24)
with special yagyas on Dec. 19th - Peyarchi Day

On December 19th, Jupiter (Guru in Sanskrit) will be moving from Capricorn to Aquarius (Makar to Kumbha). This time, when a planet is moving, is traditionally when planetary yagyas are most effective. These special yagyas enhance and attract the positive qualities of Jupiter, specifically good luck, abundance, deeper spiritual experiences, attracting good teachers, and empowering the mantras we practice.

The yagya series will consist of 2 hours of daily recitation of Yajur Veda, followed by 5 hours of daily pujas and homam (fire yagya) for each of the 10 days.

This three day temple yagya will invoke the eight fold (ashta) qualities of Lakshmi who gives abundance in all its forms; fulness, wealth, food, comfort, family, courage, victory, and knowledge. For three days we will perform the traditional Abishekam ritual in which liquid offerings are poured over the deity, in the beautiful Lakshmi temple of Kanchipuram.

Equally as important, we will perform the Anandanam ritual; the giving of food and clothing. We will be giving new dhotis to 300 young Brahmins who are training to be pundits in Kanchipuram, as well as a special celebratory meal. In Varanasi we will be offering food to a large group of senior Sanyasi whose spiritual practices benefit the universe.

By supporting and providing both essentials and comfort to others, we eliminate substantial amounts of bad karmas and create space for these positive qualities to flow into our lives. The simple act of providing food and clothing to others is recognized in the vedic tradition as being one of the best ways of advancing ourselves on the path to enlightenment and divine grace.
