This time of year is a special time for the performance of ancestor yagyas (Pitra Paksha), especially in Varanasi, Northern India. These traditional yagya rituals are performed each year to ensure spiritual and material support for the previous generations of our family. We are fortunate to have 10 pundit specialists who will be performing these yagyas for you as they have for the past eight years.      

This Yagya Program will be performed in Varanasi, on the banks of the sacred Ganges river, traditionally the home of Shiva and Parvati.  We begin with a 3 day Shiva/Shakti yagya followed by 1 full day of Ancestor Yagyas, and conclude with a yagya for Ganga - the divine form of the river itself, and symbol of purity and liberation for all generations.  Instead of our usual 5 priests, we are fortunate to have 10 priests for every day of these ancient rituals.      

At the same time our usual program of group deity and planetary yagyas will be performed in Kanchipuram.

The Vedas emphasize the importance of family and speak of how yagyas benefit previous generations who, in turn, support us with their blessings.  Due to the importance of this yagyas series, we are hoping to stimulate a lot of participation by keeping the cost to a modest $51 for the 5 day yagya in Varanasi and the 7 day group yagya series in Kanchipuram.  Please join us!

Pavamana Soma Yagya
Thursday, September 15th

The yagya comes from the Rig Veda, the longest and most ancient of the Vedas. We have asssembled a uniquely qualified team of Rig Veda pundits who will be performing this yagya for us every month.

During the yagya the pundits begin with two hours of Rig Veda recitations. Then they will perform our usual schedule of pujas and yagyas; Ganesha, Navagraha, Lakshmi/Durga/Parvati, Mrytunjaya and Rudra Abishekam. Following that, the traditional Rig Veda Pancha Sukta Pavamana ritual will be performed with the mantras and offerings specific to this sacred ritual.

This yagya is offered as a part of our monthly 10 day of Group Yagyas. We will conclude the series in December, 2011 with a full 10 days of Pavamana Soma Yagyas.

Traditionally, this yagya series is performed in order to remove any bad karmas created during this lifetime, and to support the development of our nervous system so that it support enlightened consciousness and divine awareness. It is also strongly protective of families and the health and well being of family members.
