11 day - Vishnu - Family Yagyas with Vishnu/Lakshmi Temple Yagya
($51 per family)
The holiday season is typically centered around the family. Our yagya program this month is intended to strengthen family ties, reduce tension, and support success and prosperity.
In the Vedic tradition, Vishnu is the protector of dharma, which resides first and foremost in the family. There are 10 forms of Vishnu and each day our yagya program will focus on one of them. The last day of the program will be for Vishnu and Lakshmi in one of Kanchipuram's great temples. At the same time participants will be included in a daily Shiva yagya and the month Soma yagya.
The avatars of Vishnu, and the influence of their yagyas are as follows:
- Matsya, the fish-avatar who saved Manu – the progeniter of mankind. Protector of knowledge. A Matsya Yantra traditionally protects the home.
- Kurma, the tortoise-avatar, who helped churn the ocean of milk to get amrita, the nectar of immorality. Protector of health and soma.
- Varaha, the boar-avatar who rescued the earth from the oceans. Protector of the earth and our dwellings.
- Narasimha, the half man-half lion avatar. Protector of families and those who are devoted to the growth of consciousness.
- Vamana, the dwarf-avatar. Protector of humility and destroyer of excessive pride.
- Parashurama, the sage with an axe. Protector of the gentle and peaceful.
- Rama, the hero of the Ramayana.
- Krishna, the central character in the Bhagavad Gita. Protector of happiness and enjoyment in life.
- Gautama Buddha. Protector of the power of the intellect.
- Kalki avatar is expected to appear at the end of Kali Yuga. Protector of enlightenment.
Participants in our yagya programs report that they enjoy a sense of protection from the obstacles and usual ups and downs of daily life. Obstacles seem to be reduced and overall prosperity, abundance and enjoyment of life is increased.
Frequently people ask for suggestions of daily activities that will suppor their participation during the yagya series. One simple thing to do is to listen to some chanting:
