Lakshmi is more than money; she is abundance in all forms; family, wealth, happiness and enlightenment. The Rig Veda contains the asupicious and revered Sri Suktam; the primary long form mantra for Lakshmi. This month we honor Lakshmi and Sri Suktam because the previous 6 months of yagyas have been primarily spiritual in nature, so now we focus on attracting more material abundance.

Performing Lakshmi yagyas now is important because June is the month that Jupiter changes signs and moves from Gemini to Cancer where he is fully able to express his expansive energies (exalted in jyotish terminology). In the vedic system, when a planet is changing signs, it is the best time to perform these rituals to eliminate obstacles, and Jupiter is exalted for 12 months out of every 12 years, making this a unique opportunity.

Because Jupiter is the planet of abundance and Lakshmi is the divine form abundance, they are a natural combination for this yagya series. Each day our pundits will perform a complete yagya for Jupiter and Lakshmi. The Lakshmi portion will feature 1,000 repetitions of Sri Suktam over the 10 day series, including temple yagyas for Shiva, Jupiter, and Lakshmi.
