We are in the midst of challenging times with Saturn, Jipiter, and Rahu/Ketu changing signs or about to complete their retrograde cycle. This is a time of continued chaos as these changes complete. The domestic and world stage show conflict and disharmonyas a result. On a personal level, it is common to experience this planetary pressure as some degree of disruption and transformation in our personal lives.

When the planets are in flux, it is traditionally the best time for remedial measures to pacify the planetary energies and establish a state of greater strength and harmony.

This month's program works to achieve harmony on two intertwined levels; through 30 days of planetary yagyas and through 10 Day yagyas for Hanuman and Subramanya. Hanuman and Subramanya are complimentary energies which represent the power of Jupiter and Mars.

Hanuman is one of the great heroes of the Ramayana; the divine monkey, son of the wind, who helps Rama rescue his wife Sita, defeats the demon Ravana and his army, and destroys Lanka. As such, his yagyas bring the qualities of strength, power, devotion to a higher reality, and support of peace and dharma (natural law).

Hanuman yagyas are particularly good for softening and balancing the influence of Saturn/Rahu and for strengthening the protective influence of Jupiter who has been weakened by residing with Rahu in Aries for many months.

Subramanya is the son of Shiva and Parvati and brother to Ganesha. He is considered to be the Divine General who is in command of the army of the gods in their struggle against darkness, ignorance, and violence. As such, he is the embodiment of the planet Mars who offers energy, optimism, protection, and endurance.

Our 10 Day program will also include daily recitation of the Manyu Suktam; an ideal combination with the Hanuman and Subramanya yagyas. This mantra comes from Rig Veda, 10th manala and consists of 14 verses that invoke Rudra (Shiva) to eliminate enemies, obstacles, and purify bad karmas and ill health. The text reads in part:

Come here Manyu, mightier than the mighty; chase away our enemy... bring to us all kinds of wealth and treasure. I may be small and weak, O Manyu come to me and give me vigour.

O Conquerer, born with power and a destructive bolt of thunder, the highest conquering might is yours...Unyielding bring victory like Indra, O Manyu...give us the wealth of both sides gathered and collected; And let our enemies with stricken spirits, overwhelmed with terror, creep away and be defeated.
