Three Day Ancestor and Moksha Yagya
Varanasi; June 25, 26, 27
  ($101)

This yagya is intended to accomplish three things:

  • honor our ancestors and provide for them the blessings of a yagya
  • honor and assure success of our own desire for enlightenment
  • provide support and relief from the effects of Saturn

This yagya is special because it will be conducted in Varanasi, Northern India; an ancient city dedicated to Shiva, and widely regarded to be the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world.   Our Chief Priest, Seetharama Sastry, and 4 local priests, will spend 3 days performing an ancient, traditional series of Vedic yagyas on our behalf.

Seetharam has made special arrangements to perform the yagyas in the best temples (not generally open to westerners), and not easily accessible even to Indians.  Because he will be performing and supervising the yagyas along with the 4 local priests, we are assured of the highest quality performances with all the traditional ingredients with the assistance of the most highly qualified priests available.

The famous Vishwanath temple, as seen above, is one of the sites in which Seetharam will perform pujas on our behalf. This temple was built and destroyed many times, with the form seen above being constructed in 1776.  The roof of the temple is plated with gold.  The temple contains one of the 12 unique Jyotir Lingams in India.

The Jyotir Lingams are 12 of the most important lingams for enlightenment (Jyotir means divine light), in India located in various temples dedicated to Shiva.

Varanasi is considered to be the earthly home of Shiva and so this temple and its lingam has particular signifigance and power.  Seetharam will personally offer abishekam with Ganges water, and fresh flower garlands, to the lingam on behalf of the sponsors.

In addition, there is an important Devi (goddess) temple next to the Shiva temple, where the Divine Mother is honored as being the provider of food; Annapurni.  together Shiva and Annapurna provide for humanity; he provides enligthenment, and she provide sustenance.  In the image above, you can see Shiva on the left asking Annapurna for her blessings.  Seetharam will also perform pujas in this temple and in the nearby Ganesha temple.

There is a famous stotram about the Vishwanath Temple called Kashi Vishwanath Stotram which you can listen to here.  It is sung by the famous singer, Subalakshmi.

Finally, because Shiva wears the Moon in his hair, he is considered to be the one who can soften the effects of Saturn.  So, for those who are having a difficult time, this yagya should provide some relief and peacefulness.

This yagya is of particular value to those who have the Moon in Cancer (Karka), Virgo (Kanya), Capricorn (Makara), or Aries (Mesha).
