Navaratri, the Festival of the Goddesses
for Wealth, Power, and Knowledge

14 days--Tuesday, October 4th through Tuesday, October 18th
Kanchipuram, India and Malibu, California

Lakshmi (abundance)

Durga (strength)
Saraswati (wisdom)

Navaratri is one of the most enjoyable celebrations of the entire year featuring an extended 14 days of yagyas for the main three forms of the Goddess.  The yagyas bring their blessings as wealth, strength, purity, and wisdom for the coming year.  The yagya experience is both light and enjoyable as well as deep and profound.  We are offering a variety of ways to participate so that you can have and enjoy the blessings of the goddesses without completely emptying your bank account!

Three Day Lakshmi/Durga/Saraswati Yagya

Monday October 10, Tuesday October 11, and Wednesday October 12

This yagya is the heart of Navaratri.  On each of these three days our team of priests will recite the full Chandi Path Mantra(2 hours) and then perform elaborate pujas and the complete Chandi Homam for the three goddesses; Lakshmi on Monday, Durga on Tuesday, and Saraswati on Wednesday.

The final day, Wednesday is also known as Vijaya Dashami, the Day of Victory.  This day celebrates the victory of knowledge over ignorance, and Rama's defeat of Ravana in the Ramayana.

For those who are participating in the monthly subscription series, this 3 day yagya will replace the usual 2 day Ganesha and Lakshmi yagya.

Ganesha Yagya with
1008 Modaka Offerings

Sunday, October 9th

Obstacles to obtaining what we want in life come up continually.  So it is always a good idea to take advantage of opportunities to do perform Ganesha yagyas.  By tradition, Ganesha's favorite food is the modaka ball; a sweet desert dumpling filled with toasted coconut, chopped nuts, and raw sugar in a fried rice flour shell.

In this yagya, we perform a full Ganesh puja and then during the fire ceremony, the priests recite all 1008 names (mantras) of Ganesha and offer a modaka ball into the yagya fire with each mantra.

Durga Temple Yagya

Monday, October 17, Full Moon Evening

We continue our monthly temple yagyas at one of the nicest temples in the area surrounding Kanchipuram; the Durga temple which we last used during the month of June.  Our temple yagya takes place on the Full Moon Day; Monday, October 17th.

Durga combines in one form the power of all the gods and represents in feminine form the power of spirituality to overcome all obstacles.  During Navaratri, the three goddesses; Lakshmi, Durga, and Saraswati are honored, so this temple yagya seemed an appropriate choice for Navaratri, particularly because right after Navaratri, the temple should be all charged up fro teh previous 9 days of pujas!   The yagya's effect combine the purity of Durga with the prosperity and joy of Lakshmi, and the insight and wisdom of Saraswati.

Our priests will perform a morning yagya in our own facility followed by a full scale abishekam in the Durga temple in the evening.  All participants will receive a video CD of the event.
